DescriptionThe purpose of an NSSRS “workday” is to allow districts time to prepare, submit, and validate staff and student data. Participants may choose to work on preparing staff or student data as well as submitting files to the Uniq-ID system* (NDE Student IDs). NDE and ESU #9 Professional Development staff will be available to answer questions and provide assistance throughout the day.

Districts are advised to go to the NSSRS web site to download the current NSSRS Template Calendar (http://www.education.ne.gov/nssrs/Resources.html#Calendar) and the most current template instructions (http://www.education.ne.gov/nssrs/Resources.html#Instructions).

*REMINDER: Prior to submitting the Student template, districts must obtain NDE Student IDs for new students and update information for existing students, such as grade and school year.

CommentsThe January workday is an opportunity to
  1. verify the accuracy of labels for NeSA Reading
  2. review changes to grades template as well as upload first semester grades
  3. update staff changes if necessary
  4. upload SPED information
  5. check and verify cohort information, and
  6. ask any other questions you may have
The NSSRS calendar indicates the anticipated files are Student, School Enrollment, and Year-end Special Education Snapshot.  As you may recall, it is necessary to submit (again) a SPED Snapshot of all students with verified disabilities on an IEP or IFSP at any time during 2011-2012 with information currrent as of the submission date.  The SPED Snapshot date will reflect 2012-06-30.  Submitting a complete file (and not just new students) is necessary to ensure proper MIPS forms.  If possible, please request your SPED file at least 24 hours in advance.

If you have changes in Staff personnel, this is also a good time to make those corrections/edits.

It is always helpful to keep abreast of the cohort class as found in the Portal: NSSRS Validation, System Lookups: Graduation Cohort Analysis Tool.  Accurate school enrollment files are key to the integrity of this data.

Regarding Student Grades uploads, this is a good time to upload first semester grades for grades 9, 10, 11 and 12.  There are multiple resources available to assist you in preparing for this submission.

For assistance in identifying the proper course codes, see the link to the "Course Code and Clearing Endorsements" (formerly known as Appendix D) on the NSSRS home page under the section called "Program-Specific Information."

You will also find the prescriptive/descriptive instructions at that same site, in the STUDENT Templates Instruction Manual.  The most recent set of information is dated 23 November 2011.
There is additional guidance for reporting student grades at that site as well.  See the link under Program-Specific Information.
