Description | | CALLING ALL...K-12 Math Educator's, Curriculum Directors, Instructional Coaches, and any other educator wanting to learn how to enhance their math instruction!
Scott Phillips (Math Teacher from Aurora Middle School) is BACK for a day full of instructional strategies, curriculum conversations, and innovative lesson design!
How do educators include games in their math instruction while still making it worth their precious instructional time? During this presentation, teachers will have first hand experience at several engaging, strategic, and enhancing math games. Explore a new twist on classic games that we all know AND spark your creativity with new innovation. The professional development won’t just talk about “Gamifying” the classroom, but teachers will play the games against one another so they can adapt it to their own state standards and experience it first hand. There will be something for everyone this year and it will be worth the trip. Connect with a variety of math educators in the ESU9 area and build relationships that will make everyone a better educator!
Structure for the day:
AM - Scott Phillips, Gamifying your Math Classroom (description above)
PM - Grade Level Share and Collaboration (bring your successes and struggles)
What is working well in your classroom?

Comments | | Long Term Strategies to Help Elementary/Secondary Students Reach Their Potential Presenters: Dr. Chuck Friesen, retired Lincoln Public School mathematics teacher and technology director, and Lenny VerMaas, retired mathematics teacher and ESU staff developer. The first NeSA-M assessment is completed. Now is the time to begin to make plans to enable students to do better next year. Effective test preparation depends on a sustained, long-term plan of instruction and opportunities to practice. Help will be provided to develop bell ringers and additional practice problems. These problems can be used to model test taking and problem solving strategies with students. Students who understand and can apply a wide vocabulary will do better on the NeSA-M. A wide variety of strategies to practice and deepen students’ understanding of mathematics vocabulary will be shared. Assistance will be provided for teachers who want to implement L to J for vocabulary and mathematical concepts. |
