| Description | | Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) is an evidence-based training program that teaches adults how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental health or substance use challenges in youth ages 6–18.
It equips parents, teachers, and caregivers with a 5-step action plan (ALGEE) to provide initial support and connect young people with professional care.

Participants learn to:
+Assess for risk of suicide or harm.
+Listen nonjudgmentally.
+Give reassurance and information.
+Encourage appropriate professional help.
+Encourage self-help and other support strategies.
Usage Examples:
+School Settings: Teachers using techniques to support a student showing signs of depression or managing bullying.
+Home/Community: Parents or coaches recognizing early warning signs of anxiety or eating disorders in teenagers.
+Crisis Response: Adults intervening when a young person is experiencing a panic attack, trauma, or suicidal thoughts. |
