DescriptionSection ImageTeaching social studies has become more and more challenging as the political climate in the United State has become more divisive, however for that very reason, it is more important than ever that students have the opportunity to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to be productive citizens.  This one-day workshop will help teachers determine their vision for teaching social studies, and focus on how to incorporate the skills necessary to inspire students toward lifelong inquiry and civic action.   Educators will also be provided with updates from NDE and offered new insights into best practices.  There will also be an opportunity to share resources and network with colleagues from across the region.

About the Presenter:

Lori Broady has been involved in education for over 25 years in a variety of capacities. She was fortunate to spend 23 years as a Social Studies teacher at Johnson-Brock Public Schools and was involved in a wide array of programs including We The People, National History Day, Mock Trial, and Project Citizen. Creating a strong community service program at Johnson-Brock was a particular point of satisfaction for Ms. Broady.

On a state level, she has worked on teams to revise and rewrite the Nebraska State Social Studies Standards on three separate occasions. She has served as a member of the board for the Nebraska State Council for Social Studies and has also been a member of the Nemaha Valley Museum board.

Lori is now a member of the Teaching & Learning Team at ESU4. She continues to have a passion for Social Studies education, community service, and helping teachers and students learn.
