DescriptionSection ImageWith the divisiveness in society today, there is no better time to help students understand the importance of Social Studies. This networking opportunity for K-12 Social Studies teachers will provide the educators the opportunity to look at the 2019 Nebraska Social Studies Standards and gain an understanding of the shifts.  Teachers will also be provided with tools to help navigate the standards and shifts. A specific focus will be on civic online reasoning to support teachers as they help students discern facts from false information on the Internet. A variety of tools to support students in gaining confidence in applying civil discourse to their lives will also be made available and modeled. In addition to this, resources from all six areas of the Social Sciences (Civics, Econ, Geography, History, Psychology, and Sociology) will be provided.

About the Presenter:

Lori Broady has been involved in education for over 25 years in a variety of capacities. She was fortunate to spend 23 years as a Social Studies teacher at Johnson-Brock Public Schools and was involved in a wide array of programs including We The People, National History Day, Mock Trial, and Project Citizen. Creating a strong community service program at Johnson-Brock was a particular point of satisfaction for Ms. Broady.

On a state level, she has worked on teams to revise and rewrite the Nebraska State Social Studies Standards on three separate occasions. She has served as a member of the board for the Nebraska State Council for Social Studies and has also been a member of the Nemaha Valley Museum board.

Lori is now a member of the Teaching & Learning Team at ESU4. She continues to have a passion for Social Studies education, community service, and helping teachers and students learn.
