DescriptionESU 9 will be providing a two-day Write Tools training with Jen Letheby from The Write Tools Inc. This workshop actively engages participants in writing strategies and techniques designed to teach the art of Opinion and Argumentation writing.

* This training is for K-12 teachers in all content areas but please note that the target audience for Day 1 is K-5 and the target audience for Day 2 is 6-12.

* All participants will need and receive a manual which includes differentiated teaching strategies for: Opinion Writing (K-5) and Argumentation (6-12).

* This important and unique genre of writing is often included on district and state writing assessments and is part of the ACT writing format.

* Teachers will leave the workshop with proven strategies and common language around what is frequently a difficult process for students.

Day One - Opinion Writing (K-5): Writing Demonstration, Writing Routine for Opinion Paragraphs (planning, drafting, revising, editing, publishing), Best Practices for Writing, Classroom Stories, Students Samples and Research/Data.

Day Two - Argumentation Writing (6-12): Review of Writing Process, Expectations for Argumentation, Definition of Argumentative Writing, Writing Demonstration, Persuasion vs. Argumentation, Understanding Terminology, Point of View, Claims/Counterclaims, Ethos, Pathos, Logos Arguments

*1 Credit Hour available through Hastings College, $200 per credit hour
**Must attend both days of Write Tools to receive 1 credit
