Sound Partners Plus, under
the direction of Dr. Patricia Vadasy from Washington Research Institute, was
developed and designed as and intervention or supplemental instruction in
advanced phonics and decoding skills.
The target group is for second and third grade students who have a basic
decoding strategy, but who continue to struggle with word identification of
longer and more complex words. These
lessons are designed to be used with interventionists who work with small
groups or 1:1 with students for 30 minutes a day, 4-5 days a week, for 15-20
weeks.
The
program was specifically developed to reduce the number of children with
reading disabilities by supplementing reading instruction for second and third
graders at high risk in reading. Sound Partners Plus is tailored for interventionists
to provide effective instruction in the early reading skills most predictive of
reading achievement. The Sound Partners Plus has three short parts:
Word Reading Review, Multisyllable Words, and Sight Word Practice.
