Description | | Presenter: Kent Day from the Nebraskans For Civic Reform
Please Note: In order to take this course for college credit, participants must also attend Social Studies: "Best Practices" on June 2.
Purpose: Presenting creative, meaningful, and substantive programming for K -12 teachers for the purpose of
serving students in the pursuit for civic knowledge and responsibilities.
Two specific programs will be covered:
Capitol Experience: Curriculum
* 20 classroom ready documents that facilitate the teaching of writing, debating, and passing legislation in Nebraska
1. Sample Bills
2. Sample Hearing Testimonies
3. Debate Points
* Logistical information for a trip to the capitol
* How to arrange for speakers from all three branches of government
* Access to authentic hearing rooms and courtrooms
Service Learning:
* Sharing best practices from the National Youth Leadership Council
* Devising projects that benefit schools, community, or families
Persons taking this course for college credit will also be charged the ESU 9 registration fee.
